  RHINOCERUS Sumatran hinoceros The Sumatran rhinoceros (Dicerorhinussumatrensis) is the smallest rhino species. It is alsothe most distinctive rhinoceros. It has beenhunted a lot that it is almost extinct. There are lessthan 300 Sumatran rhinoceroses surviving inMalaysia and Indonesia. Between 1985 and 1995,the number of Sumatran rhinos declined by 50percent because of poaching and habitatdestruction. The Sumatran rhinoceros has unique grey or reddish-brown coat.
