*Malin Kundang and His Mother*
A long time ago, in a small village near the beach in West Sumatra lived a woman with her son, Malin Kundang. Malin Kundang and his mother had to live hard because his father had passed away when he was a baby.
Malin Kundang was a healthy, dilligent, and strong boy. He usually went to sea to catch fish. After getting fish he would bring it to his mother, or sell the caught fish in the town. One day, when Malin Kundang was sailing as usual, he saw a merchant's ship being raided by a small band of pirates. With his bravery, Malin Kundang defeated the pirates. To thank him, the merchant allowed Malin Kundang to sail with him. Malin Kundang agreed easily. He had been longing to be able to sail abroad.
Many years later, Malin Kundang became wealthy. He had a huge ship and was accompanied by many ship crews. He was sailing in a large ship with flag hoisted. He stopped at a beach near a small village. The local people recognized him. The news ran fast in the town; "Malin Kundang has become rich and now he is here".
An old woman ran to the beach to meet the new rich merchant. She was Malin Kundang’s mother but he didn't admit it. At that time, Malin Kundang's face had changed. His mother, wearing worn out clothes, tried to hug him but he didn't want to hug the old, poor woman. She said with tears, "Malin, my son, why did you go so long". But, Malin Kundang said to her "You supposed to be dead long ago. Enough, stop!" ordered Malin Kundang to his guard. He said that she was just an old, insane woman.
At that time, Malin Kundang's mother was very sad and upset. She then cursed Malin Kundang; "Malin Kundang, you are not my beloved son anymore. You've become a cruel man". Not long after, suddenly a thunderstorm came in the quiet sea, wrecking his huge ship. He was thrown out to a small island nearby. Suddenly, he was magically turned into a stone.
The moral of the story is that we have to respect our parents, especially our mother. Being rich or successful is meaningless if we forget our own mother. That's why that stone is known as batu Malin Kundang until now.

* *"The Mouse Deer's Problem"*
In the heart of the forest, amidst the rustling leaves and the whispering winds, there dwelled a creature of remarkable cunning and wisdom - Mouse Deer. His reputation preceded him, for he was the go-to creature when troubles befell the denizens of the woods. Despite his intellect, Mouse Deer carried himself with humility, endearing him to all who crossed his path.
One sunlit day, as Mouse Deer wandered in search of succulent fruits, fate led him into the path of a wild tiger. In the jaws of the predator, Mouse Deer remained calm, his mind racing with a plan.
"Please, Mr. Tiger, spare me!" Mouse Deer pleaded.
The tiger, with hunger gleaming in his eyes, retorted, "Why should I let you go? You're just a meal to me!"
"But you'll rue the day you consume me," Mouse Deer countered confidently.
Unsure, the tiger questioned, "And why is that?"
"Because, dear tiger, if you release me, I'll lead you to an even grander feast," Mouse Deer explained.
Intrigued, the tiger consented, "Show me this feast of yours."
With a sly smile, Mouse Deer beckoned the tiger to follow him into a nearby cave, promising a bounty of meat within. As the tiger ventured into the darkness, Mouse Deer seized the opportunity to escape, leaving the bewildered predator behind.
Yet, Mouse Deer's trials were far from over. Racing through the forest, he encountered a vast lake, its shimmering waters blocking his path. As he paused to quench his thirst, a menacing crocodile emerged from the depths, eyeing him hungrily.
"Ah, my dear deer, you've fallen into my clutches at last," the crocodile sneered.
Desperate, Mouse Deer implored, "Please, have mercy on me!"
But the crocodile, unmoved by pleas, mocked him, "No one can save you now!"
Undeterred, Mouse Deer proposed a deal, promising a feast fit for a king in exchange for his freedom. Though skeptical, the crocodile entertained the notion.
"Prove your sincerity, deer," the crocodile demanded.
With quick wit, Mouse Deer reassured, "I have no desire to deceive you. My offer is genuine."
Turning to his companions, the crocodile sought their opinion, and swayed by Mouse Deer's earnestness, they assented.
"Very well, deer. Where is this feast of yours?" the crocodile inquired.
"I shall lead you to it, but you must form a line by the riverbank," Mouse Deer instructed.
As the crocodiles obediently lined up, Mouse Deer leaped from one to the next, counting aloud. With each jump, he edged closer to the safety of the shore until, at last, he bounded to freedom, leaving the perplexed crocodiles in his wake.
"Simple-minded reptiles, easily duped," Mouse Deer chuckled to himself as he vanished into the forest, his cunning once again triumphing over adversity.
